Vanity: Denise Matthews became the leader of the lingerie-clad group Vanity 6 for which Prince wrote Vanity 6 (1982) with the massive hit “Nasty Girl.” She had moderate success thereafter with a handful of films. Her drinking and drug use almost cost her life. Chaka Khan

Chaka Khan: Not a protegé of Prince’s but a recurring figure in his music. The first hit song he wrote for her was the exceptionally famous, “I Feel For You” in 1984. Later he wrote other singles such as “Sticky Wicked,” “Pain” and “Eternity” for her. In 1998 an entire album entitled, Come 2 My House was produced by Prince especially for Chaka Khan. She performs alongside him on and off to this day. In 2008 she added her version of Prince’s “Sign ‘O’ The Times” song to her latest album.

Mayte Garcia

Mayté García: Joined the NPG at eighteen and incorporated her ballet dancing into a musical act Prince created for her. Prince wrote Children Of The Sun (1995) for her with the hit “If Eye Love U 2Night.” He married her in 1996 and had an annulment in 1998. Today, Mayté has found moderate success in films and television series.

Sheila E.

Sheila E.: Daughter of the famous Pete Escovedo who performed with the legendary Santana. From an early age Sheila E. performed with her father on the drums and was introduced to Prince by Santana. Prince wrote the albums The Glamorous Life (1984), A Romance 1600 (1985) & Sheila E. (1987) for her. She toured with him on and off in the ‘80's and in the new century up until today.

Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra: Discovered by Prince and named by him. Prince wrote her self-titled rap album in 1993 which unfortunately was not successful. However, she went on to find fame as a centerfold and starred in the famous “Baywatch” series alongside Pamela Anderson and had minor roles in a few films. She is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but now resides in Malibu. Her real name is Tara Leigh Patrick.

The Time

The Time: Included high school friend Morris Day and other band members for which Prince wrote four albums that included the perennial hits “Jungle Love” and “The Bird.” They appeared in Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge. Differences between Prince and The Time members forced them to break up in 1984 and again in 1990. Former band members Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis found fame with their record company Flyte Time which produced albums for Janet Jackson, Boyz 2 Men, etc.

Jill Jones

Jill Jones: Formed part of The Revolution from 1982 through 1984. Prince wrote her self-titled album in 1987.  She appeared in both “Purple Rain” and “Graffiti Bridge.”

Tamar

Tamar: Prince wrote Milk And Honey which was supposed to have been released in 2006 for his newest protegé Tamar. Her singing and persona failed to capture audiences or spark interest and slowly she receded into the background. Prince included her constantly in his 3121 performances and even had her sing throughout the album.

Elisa Fiorillo

Elisa Fiorillo: Another Prince protegé whose voice is first heard in the Graffiti Bridge album in the song “Love Machine” and a year later in “Diamonds and Pearls.” Prince wrote an entire album for her in 1990 entitled “I Am.”
